Redfern Scavenge (NSW)

On Saturday the 21st of September, we cleaned up a massive 257.8kg or litter from Redfern and it’s surrounding areas. We couldn’t have done this on our own. There were over 60 participants, 11 volunteers, 7 community groups, 3 musicians, 5 local businesses and one local council that made the Redfern Scavenge such a great day!

City of Sydney supported the Scavenge in its first year in Redfern and also our first Urban Scavenge. This event was our 60th Scavenge ever and it was World Clean Up Day.

We had a number of community groups in the park with us. Wandana held space for an aboriginal arts and crafts circle. Solar Analytics, Boomerang Bags and the Redfern Community Shed held information stalls and YARN Australia held a cross cultural yarn.

We had some activist groups with us for this event which is something new for us. The Stop Adani team held an info stall and Extinction Rebellion held activities in the park including face painting and hula hooping which helped to create the fun, family-friendly vibe.

The people of Sydney rallied in support of the Scavenge and we could not have pulled this off without the help of each and every one of these legends!

THANKS TO ALL THE LOCAL BUSINESSES, COMMUNITY GROUPS AND VOLUNTEERS FOR MAKING THIS HAPPEN
