Maroubra Scavenge (NSW)
Thank you Maroubra! With the support of Randwick City Council we were able to hold our 46th event on the weekend. It was our 6th event in Randwick and our 2nd in Maroubra. We had such a great day down on the beach with you all on Saturday.
94 participants & 13 volunteers took to the beach on Saturday 2nd of March 2019 to clean-up 78.6 kg of waste, 3,168 cigarette butts and THOUSANDS of bits of small plastics! The weirdest thing we found on the day was an old bike tyre with its gearing system still somehow attached!
We smashed some massive milestones at Saturday’s Scavenge! Seaside Scavenge has now picked up over 150,000 cigarette butts and have had over 5,000 participants join in the scavenge! WOOT.
Out of the 94 participants that took part on the weekend 66% had never been to a beach clean event.Typically 90% of participants have never done a clean-up, so it’s awesome to see that so many Scavengers in Maroubra are already getting involved in the beach clean action!
