50th Scavenge in Willoughby!

YEWWW 50 Scavenges! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us over the years! We couldn’t have done any of this without the amazing communities we have around us. Willoughby was the location of our 50th Scavenge and on Saturday the 4th of May we headed down to the Lane Cove Rotary Field Oval which is right next to the Lane Cove River. And yes.. the fourth was with us…

We had 54 incredible Scavengers and 9 keen volunteers clean up a total of 65.5kg’s of litter from the area which included 50.5kg of waste and 15kg of litter. The area was pretty clean in general thanks to regular clean-ups that happen around the area. We’re stoked to see such an environmentally aware and engaged community getting involved in protecting the area from trash! To our surprise, there were not that many cigarettes collected which is always a good sign!

Willoughby City Council supported us in setting up the event and it was our first time visiting the area. We had the council holding a stall at the event alongside Bye Bye Plastics and Tomra. We had 4 very talented local musicians playing for us on the day - Noonshift, Mckinley Payne, Miska and Dom Diaz. Massive shout out to these legends.

Scavengers had their eyes on the prizes and we did have some great prizes. Congratulation to Will and Suzie who won the 4 Pines Brewery Tour Vouchers. Pete won the Complete Health Chiro prize and Jutta won the 2-month membership from Lane Cove Aquatic Centre.

To everyone that participated, we hope you’re enjoying the pre-loved items purchased with your trash tokens! The second-hand pop up market is a core element of the Scavenge, as it’s about reducing waste on all levels. HUGE thanks to all the people that donated their goods!

Seaside Scavenge wants to plant a seed of environmental nurturing in you. This involves thinking beyond waterway litter and focusing on litter prevention. In short - create less waste. Be creative and think of all the different ways you could cut down on your own consumption.

If you want to be more involved with what we do here at the Scavenge you can get in touch about organising a corporate workshop, school talks or university presentations. Here’s the link to contact us.

We love hearing from you. We’re always looking for volunteers & donations as well so please don’t be shy! Send us a message to find out more.

Stay up to date with what we’re up to at the scavenge by following us on Facebook & Instagram.
