Independent Scavenging WA
On Saturday 23rd Feb, 57 participants retrieved 1,584 cigarette butts, over 500 pieces of soft plastics, almost 500 pieces of hard plastics, 50+ plastic bottles and 50+ plastic lids plus over 200 pieces of foil materials from Burns Beach.
In totals, 27.84kg of recycling was collected and 54.49kg of landfill. A total of 82.33kg of rubbish was collected.
All this rubbish was prevented from getting any further into our environment thanks to all of the participants involved. Some of whom took it a step further (or many steps further):
Holly Linsday brought in huge numbers when she retrieved the most cigarette butts of anyone on the day, collecting a total of 300 and has won a double pass to Aloha Surfhouse to surf and climb!
The prize for the furthest scavenge goes to Jasmine Nelson who with her friend walked an incredible 12km round trip to pick up rubbish. This awesome effort will be rewarded with a $100 gift voucher to Carramar Flowers & Gifts
Gina Daniele successfully scavenged the most litter with 383 pieces and has won a 10 visit pass to Yoga Tree Perth valued at $180
Karen and Russell Nelson came back with the weirdest items (a giant pole and a car battery and earned themselves a $50 voucher to Burns Beach Cafe and Restaurant
A massive thanks to everyone who was involved - especially our Green Team of incredible, dedicated volunteers. The event wouldn't have happened without you and your efforts were huge.
Also a special thanks to the local businesses and organisations who were so keen to get involved with our event. These include:
And our fantastic musicians:
Nik Martino - who not only played but also provided the PA system and everything else we needed to create sound
Michael Triscari - worked all day behind the scenes as well as played not one, but two sets!
Neve Cunningham - thank you for your beautiful set!
